With a mission to create sustainable value for all of its stakeholders by being the lead provider of energy in the Turkish power market, Enerjisa is the resulting joint venture between Sabancı Holding and French gas giant E.ON. In addition to its four main business lines, which comprise electricity generation, distribution, trading and sales, Enerjisa also manages a growing portfolio in the natural gas sector. In recent years, the company has felt the pressure of depressing oil and gas prices, and therefore has come to rely on its legal team to provide an extra boost to its commercial success. Spurred on by head legal counsel, Didem Mutlu, the legal team helps Enerjisa to provide tailor-made trading products to energy-intensive customers, and structured products to other market participants through complex negotiations that serve to balance services and secure market access. In addition, the team facilitates Enerjisa’s cross-border trading activities with Bulgaria and Greece, by routinely identifying necessary regulations within these countries. Specifically, the team has shown itself to be effective in the carbon market via carbon credit development and successfully negotiating the sale of certified carbon credits.
