Head of aircraft management | Thai AirAsia X

What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

Our legal team advised on operating lease transactions that enabled Thai AirAsia X to take delivery of three Airbus A330 aircraft in the second half of 2024. These transactions marked a significant milestone in the airline’s post-pandemic recovery and highlighted its ability to meet growing air travel demand amid limited aircraft availability and strong competition.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In times of instability or crisis, I believe maintaining trust – both within the organization and externally – is paramount. This requires clear and timely communication, transparency where appropriate, and a firm commitment to a realistic, actionable plan. It is always better to be upfront with stakeholders, as problems cannot be effectively resolved if those involved lack a clear understanding of the situation. Where possible, I also look for opportunities to add unexpected value and exceed expectations – but always with a clear-eyed view of what can be delivered sustainably and responsibly.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In today’s environment where regulatory complexity, operational risk, and market volatility are constant; a modern in-house counsel must combine legal expertise with a deep understanding of the business. Sound judgment and commercial acumen are critical. Responsiveness is also key in an environment shaped by geopolitical shifts and unforeseen disruptions.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?

The rapid adoption of AI and digital technologies presents both opportunities and complex risks. Legal teams play a critical role in shaping governance frameworks, policies and risk assessments to ensure responsible and effective use of these tools. At the same time, geopolitical instability and shifting trade dynamics are increasingly affecting contractual obligations and supply chain resilience. Staying on top of these developments is not just about mitigating risk – it is essential to keeping the business competitive and compliant in a constantly evolving landscape.
