Founded in 1995 Swiss brand Luxury Goods International offers distribution and logistics services for international brands such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen. The legal team was established in 2018 and has been tasked with setting up integral legal processes and paving the way for the legal direction of the company. Previously, the team was made up of one person coordinating legal work with external counsel, however, the newly created in-house legal team is made up of three lawyers and one assistant, who take on the daily demands of the fashion distribution centre. The legal department is led by head of legal shared services for Switzerland Monica Zocca, who is responsible for taking care of major contracts, setting priorities within the team and establishing guidelines and standards within the company. ‘Since this is a small team, there’s strong interaction and continuous exchange so that each one is kept abreast of relevant issues’, says Zocca. The team includes a lawyer who follows the daily activities of the main customers and their interactions with clients, as well as routine contracts in regards to supply, sale, distribution and media. Also part of the team is a senior paralegal, who takes care of all corporate documentation and matters relevant to corporate governance. ‘Integrity and sharing forms a large part of the legal function’s culture. Be accountable for spreading awareness within the company on legal risks specific to the business and how to reduce them’, says Zocca.
