Career Biography

Legal Director at Signify, responsible for commercial operations in Eastern Europe. Since 2024, additionally serving also as Global Head of Legal for Conventional and Special Lighting Operations. Tomasz leads a team of in-house and external lawyers supporting Signify’s commercial and manufacturing operations in the region, with strong footprint in Poland. He also covers procurement, supply chain as well as global conventional and specialty lighting businesses at Signify (Netherlands).

Legal Advisor to the District Chamber of Legal Advisors in Warsaw, a graduate of the University of Warsaw, holding postgraduate degrees in Corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance Management from the Warsaw School of Economics. Speaker at legal and compliance conferences as a panelist, recently also acting as a jury member of the legal hackathon at the Tilburg University, Netherlands.

What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

Over the past year, I led the legal work for Signify’s participation in a major public tender including a Public-Private Partnership for the lighting infrastructure of the city of Kraków. This complex ESCO project required close coordination across internal teams, law firms, financial institutions and public authorities. My role focused on aligning regulatory, contractual, and financing aspects to balance legal risk with commercial goals.

I also oversaw the restructuring of Signify’s Eastern European operations in the EE region, including the closure and relocation of manufacturing sites and the setup of new business activities from Hungary at Piła factory in Poland.

In my global capacity, I supported the Conventional and Special Lighting team in adapting to global regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and smooth business continuity worldwide.

What are the key trends that in-house counsel should be monitoring in 2026?

One key trend for in-house counsel in 2026 is what I would call healthy AI skepticism. Rather than rushing into new technologies, legal teams should first understand their own processes, identifying repetitive, low-value tasks and optimising them.

Only once that groundwork is in place may the AI tools be introduced to improve efficiency and consistency. AI is a powerful enabler when applied thoughtfully, but it cannot fix weak processes. The focus should be on sustainable integration, not quick wins only.

AI is increasingly being integrated into legal teams to maximise efficiency. How can in-house counsel ensure the successful incorporation of these tools without compromising the human element?

Successful AI adoption begins with building AI literacy across the entire legal team, not just among tech enthusiasts. Everyone should have the opportunity to experiment, learn and integrate AI into daily work.

At Signify, we take a process-driven approach by organising brainstorming sessions, prototyping tools and being transparent about what works and what doesn’t. Recognising when to stop a project that adds no value is a strength, not a setback.

I also strongly believe in legal design as a core part of the modern in-house function. In 2026, it should become standard practice focusing on clarity, usability and collaboration with the business. Our goal is to make legal content easy to understand and apply, closing the gap between lawyers and end users. I will also request external counsels to apply legal design in their work for Signify.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I’m passionate about Signify’s purpose – bringing light, sustainability and innovation to everyday environments. Lighting directly affects safety, wellbeing and energy efficiency. I am proud that I support sustainable commercial projects that deliver tangible benefits for cities and communities all around the world. Working where legal expertise enables real, positive change is both motivating and meaningful to me.
