What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

With regard to the most relevant projects, I would note that, in recent months, one of the most significant initiatives has been the launch of local production of Heineken. Our products, across different SKUs of the brand, are now being manufactured in Peru, which represented a major challenge for the organisation as a whole, requiring coordinated efforts across multiple fronts. Also, with my participation, we recently buy some operations in other countries and finalized the purchases of our brewery.

Are there any particular challenges for which in-house counsel should be preparing in 2026?

An electoral year undoubtedly generates challenges, including potential regulatory changes and the politicisation of certain sectors, among other issues. Likewise, the current global tensions may have an impact on various industries, including fluctuations in the exchange rate of the U.S. dollar and the potential modification of tariffs. In summary, from my position and perspective, I consider that this will be a year of significant volatility. It is therefore essential to proceed with caution, closely monitor market movements, and ensure that our contractual frameworks are sufficiently robust so as not to be materially affected by such changes.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

The most important attributes that an in-house counsel should possess, in my view, are a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the company’s business; alignment with business management terminology and concepts; strong critical judgment; effective communication skills, including the ability to actively listen; and proactivity and openness to change.

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into legal teams, how can general counsel ensure the successful incorporation of these tools without compromising the human element?

At present, there are numerous proprietary corporate systems that support the appropriate use of artificial intelligence, making its deployment more efficient and secure. I believe that learning how to effectively use AI will significantly facilitate our work; however, as with any tool, its output must be subject to review by legal professionals. Whether intentionally or not, artificial intelligence has already been used within the public sector for some time, particularly through the mass processing of documents based on similarity criteria; nevertheless, such use was often not subject to adequate legal review.
