Legal and Documentation Manager | ZUBA
What are the projects that you are most proud of working on over the past 12 months?
Accompanying ZUBA throughout the process of obtaining the Investment Grade has been, without a doubt, one of the most rewarding challenges. This achievement allowed the company to become the first real estate developer to issue bonds on the stock market, which required a thorough adaptation of its internal, operational, and legal structures. Being part of this process and contributing from the legal area was a highly enriching professional experience.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world, specific to Paraguay, that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
The most notable trend is the growing professionalisation of the private sector. With the country’s recent achievement of Investment Grade status, new opportunities are opening up for financing, strategic alliances, and the entry of international players. In this context, the role of the in-house lawyer becomes crucial, not only as legal support but also as a strategic ally who must engage in continual learning and possess a deep understanding of the business to provide real value.
What are some key attributes every in-house lawyer should possess?
In addition to technical knowledge, it is essential to understand the product or service offered by the company, to interpret how the commercial area thinks, and to translate that logic into legal language without slowing down the dynamics of the business. Agility, the ability to anticipate risks, and a comprehensive understanding of the internal workings of the organisation are essential for the legal department to stop being seen as an ‘obstacle’ and become a facilitator of solutions.
