What are the projects you are most proud to have worked on in the last 12 months?
One of the most significant projects I was involved in was the comprehensive update of the operational regulations of the Bolsa de Valores de Asunción, in alignment with the new regulatory framework issued by the Securities Supervisor. I also took part in the legal structuring of a new guarantee trust for securities transactions, aimed at providing greater transparency and security for market participants.
In addition, I participated in ongoing meetings alongside other representatives of the Bolsa de Valores de Asunción, where we analysed key aspects of the reform project for Paraguay’s Securities Market Law, which is currently under review.
Lastly, I led the revision and amendment of the standard contracts for participation in the Electronic Trading System (SEN) of the Bolsa de Valores de Asunción, with the aim of aligning them with current regulatory and operational updates.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world, specific to Paraguay, that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
There is a growing focus on digitalisation within the securities market, with initiatives aimed at the full dematerialisation of securities and the automation of processes. Additionally, we are seeing progress in regulations related to corporate governance and sustainability, which in-house lawyers should monitor closely.
What are some key attributes every in-house lawyer should possess?
I believe adaptability, strategic thinking, deep business knowledge, and the ability to translate complex regulations into practical solutions are essential. Proactiveness and effective communication are also key to generating value beyond purely legal matters.
