Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world, specific to Paraguay, that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
In the agribusiness sector, soybean price fluctuations should be closely monitored, especially given the geopolitical situation in the region, as well as the climatic and economic conditions in Paraguay and for its farmers. Additionally, the implementation of new sustainability regulations across Europe (such as the EUDR) has a significant impact on commodity exports. As such, it should be analysed and monitored by the respective legal teams.
In the port industry, the conditions of the Paraná-Paraguay waterway should be continuously tracked, as its navigability faces ongoing challenges (drought, soil degradation, and, currently, sediment accumulation in the Bermejo passage). These circumstances compel legal teams to explore alternative legal strategies to mitigate additional costs and potential penalties.
What are some key attributes every in-house lawyer should possess?
Flexibility, versatility, and innovator.
