Majed Alshabana has been the general counsel of the legal affairs department at STC since 2014, and now manages a team of 100 consultants from different nationalities and legal backgrounds across three departments (contracts and agreements, lawsuits, consultations and investigations). Heading a legal department at this level requires a unique set of administrative skills, with Alshabana’s strategic planning, development, and quality control abilities being particularly remarked upon by internal and external observers. Internally, as well as digitising the entire process of handling legal cases through a portal named iGate, Alshabana has overseen the STC legal team being the first in the Middle East to obtain ISO 2015-9001 accreditation in 2017. In terms of project work, he has led a number of mega projects that have a market value of SAR19bn during the fiscal year of 2018. He has also spearheaded STC’s negotiations team with giant companies including Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei to implement 5G technology in the Saudi market at a value of SAR5bn. In addition, he successfully closed M&A transactions with a value that exceeded SAR1bn, and has entered into strategic alliances to work hand in hand with other consulting firms such as Boston Consulting Group to achieve specific goals of the Vision 2030 project by the Saudi government. Alshabana has always believed in diversity influencing team performance positively. As a result, he enabled the role of women in the legal system at STC by engaging them in decision-making processes at all levels.
