A major centre for oil and gas production and the energy sector as a whole, BP has a major presence in Mexico and a highly skilled in-house legal team. In 2018, in consultation on legal matters with the Mexican in-house team, BP has announced the launch of BPme, its mobile payment application in Mexico. Powered by AI and IBM Watson technology it can record the payments of customers and locate any of the 330 service stations in Mexico. BP has pursued an expansion plan, with the team’s help, across Mexico that has led to the opening of over 300 service stations including its 300th location milestone reached when it opened a site in the state of Campeche in 2018. The team also successfully handled and favourably resolved an investigation in 2018 by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of the Consumer (Profeco) regarding diesel sold at a service station in Puebla. The investigation was found in favour of BP and demonstrates the team’s diligence in consumer standards.
