Mr. José Osiel Jaimes Jaimes

Senior legal manager | Grupo Jumex

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis, and how does your legal strategy align with the overall business strategy to ensure the organization’s resilience?

In times of crisis, I always try to remain calm, analyse the context, think through various scenarios to address them, and then communicate this to my team. I focus on identifying potential risks and action plans, prioritising, and developing a legal strategy to ensure the company’s resilience. We establish protocols to work together to maintain strong financial and cultural resilience so that the company can anticipate, respond to, and recover from these challenges.

What are the most important cases or transactions in which you have recently participated?

At Grupo Jumex, I have participated in various strategic projects, including corporate, operational, and infrastructure initiatives. These include leading the legal strategy for processing permits and licences for production plants and warehouses, aimed at ensuring legal and regulatory compliance throughout the operation.

I have also led the legal strategy for all of the company’s infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Jumex Museum (Mexico City), the ‘CMA’ Master Storage Center (State of Mexico), the Monterrey Plant (Nuevo León), the Jumex Electrical Substation (State of Mexico), the modernisation of the Tuxpan Plant (Veracruz), and the construction of the first automated warehouse with state-of-the-art technology (State of Mexico).

These projects have been recognised by Grupo Jumex with Excellence Awards for six consecutive years.

What measures has your company adopted to integrate sustainability practices into its core operations, and how does the role of general counsel contribute to promoting and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

At Grupo Jumex, I participated as General Counsel in the creation of the sustainability pillar known as ESG, which is a fundamental part of the company’s operations, encompassing:

Environment (‘Por mi tierra’ – for my land): Efficient management of natural resources, good agricultural practices, resource optimisation, sustainable initiatives, and AGE innovation programmes.

Social (‘Por mi Gente’ – for my people): Protection of human rights, labour standards, diversity, inclusion, and equality. Promotion of the well-being of communities, workers, and farmers.

Governance (‘Por mi México’ – for my Mexico): Corporate structure and good governance, business ethics, the fight against corruption, collective action, and transparency.
