What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

Our legal team has been engaged in a wide range of work across commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, and litigation, primarily within the local region. One of the most significant challenges we have faced over the past year has been the rapidly evolving regulatory environment surrounding internet services. With the introduction of new regulatory frameworks aimed at increasing transparency, content moderation, and user data protection, our team has played a central role in advising compliance strategy and interfacing with local authorities. This proactive approach not only reduced potential legal exposure but also preserved the company’s reputation and user trust in sensitive markets. On the litigation front, we have observed a rise in disputes concerning platform content and user rights, often involving complex issues around freedom of expression, intermediary liability, and jurisdictional challenges.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organization’s resilience?

Navigating legal complexity during times of uncertainty requires more than just technical knowledge – it demands foresight, adaptability, and a strong sense of purpose. As technological innovation accelerates, particularly in social media and AI-driven spaces, traditional legal frameworks often lag behind, creating ambiguity and risk. In such environments, our role as legal counsel is not merely to interpret existing laws, but to proactively anticipate regulatory shifts and help the business chart a responsible path forward. To that end, I prioritise continuous learning and cross-disciplinary awareness – staying abreast of geopolitical, technological, and social trends that may impact our legal exposure. Especially during crises, whether driven by regulatory change, public scrutiny, or litigation, I aim to provide steady, empathetic guidance that balances legal rigor with business pragmatism. As legal professionals, if we are not equipped to leverage such technologies effectively, we risk becoming obsolete in a world that increasingly values agility and precision. Ultimately, resilience comes from staying curious, embracing change, and remaining aligned with both legal and ethical values – even under pressure.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

One particularly distinctive aspect of my career is that I began my professional journey not as a lawyer, but as a business management consultant at leading consulting firms. This background has significantly shaped my approach to legal practice and provided me with a competitive edge in delivering commercially viable and strategically aligned legal advice. This early experience gave me not only a deep understanding of business models across industries but also a keen sense of how legal decisions intersect with commercial realities. For instance, when negotiating contracts, I have found that the ability to communicate effectively with business units, understand their objectives, and translate them into enforceable legal frameworks is critical for in-house legal teams today. This fusion of business acumen and legal insight has allowed me to build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and to offer solutions that are both legally sound and operationally effective, which I believe defines my unique value as a legal professional.

Looking forward, what trends do you foresee in the legal landscape over the next five to ten years that companies should prepare for?

The most transformative force shaping the legal landscape over the next decade is, undoubtedly, the advancement of generative AI. This technology is already beginning to redefine how legal work is performed, from contract analysis and legal research to risk assessment and compliance monitoring. Companies must prepare for a future in which legal functions are increasingly augmented – or even disrupted – by intelligent automation. However, this shift does not diminish the value of human legal professionals; rather, it redefines it. In an age where routine legal tasks can be delegated to AI, the differentiating qualities of effective legal managers will be their soft skills – the ability to empathise, negotiate, lead, and collaborate across diverse teams. These are qualities that machines cannot replicate, yet they are essential for navigating ambiguity, managing stakeholder relationships, and guiding organisations through legal and ethical complexity.
