PMI employs 140 people in its Hong Kong office and is the largest tobacco producer in Asia. It is also an innovator in smokeless tobacco technology including its research, scientific testing, marketisation and production. The legal team in Asia manages legal risk and provides informed strategic advice to the company in Asia being a proactive partner within the business for its innovation into smokeless technology and the regulation surrounding these products. The lead lawyer Justin Mayall has been vice president and associate general counsel of PMI in Hong Kong since 1992, after qualifying and working as a solicitor with Clifford Chance in London and Hong Kong in the 1980’s. The team is familiar with a range of topics, and advises the PMI business through all of its contract, regulatory and litigation matters in Hong Kong and across the region. Based in Hong Kong, Mayall leads the legal function for Phillip Morris Asia and oversees handling of all legal matters for the international tobacco and smokeless tobacco technology giant.
