Head of legal | APIVITA S.A.
What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?
While the past 12 months have not featured a high-profile project in the conventional sense, it has been a year of consistent and foundational legal work. I have continued to drive forward the strategic legal initiatives that underpin the long-term success of APIVITA within PUIG Group.
Key areas of focus during 2025 included: sustaining international commercial structures. I maintained and developed the legal frameworks governing APIVITA’s presence in international markets. This included ensuring legal and operational effectiveness of local distribution networks — whether through independent third parties or intra-group affiliates — with updated legal standards and group policy expectations. This work remains essential for the brand’s sustainable global reach.
Recognising the brand as one of the company’s most valuable intangible assets, I continued to oversee and expand our IP portfolio. This involved managing renewals and oppositions across key markets, as well as IP and brand protection.
I worked on corporate governance and policy alignment, including the alignment between APIVITA’s legal framework and Puig Group’s global standards. This included ongoing review and implementation of internal legal policies, and compliance procedures.
A significant milestone was APIVITA’s successful B Corp recertification in 2025. My legal support contributed to navigating the rigorous verification process, ensuring the company met the highest standards of legal accountability and transparency. The result was the company’s outstanding overall score, positioning APIVITA as one of the top-ranked companies globally in the B Corp Beauty Benchmark.
Even in a year without visible headline projects, I have remained, for one more year since 2012, committed to upholding the company’s long-term legal strategy and ensuring that its values are consistently reflected in every aspect of legal work.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
One of the most unique and defining experiences of my career has been my journey with APIVITA, which I joined in 2012 at the invitation of its founders. They entrusted me with the responsibility of establishing the company’s legal function from the ground up — an opportunity that was as challenging as it was inspiring.
APIVITA is a purpose-driven company, committed to the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. It offers effective natural beauty products and today operates in over 50 countries. In 2020, it became a 100% subsidiary of PUIG, the Barcelona-based beauty and fashion conglomerate.
What stands out as truly unique has been witnessing — and contributing to — the company’s transformation: from a visionary family business to part of a global corporate group. Over these 12+ years, I have not only operated the legal function from scratch, but also helped cultivate what I call legal consciousness within the organisation.
Legal consciousness isn’t a sprint — it’s a marathon. It’s not only about risk management or compliance; it’s also about sharing knowledge, shaping a culture of accountability, and guiding people to make decisions grounded in ethics and responsibility. Supporting APIVITA through this transformation, while helping preserve its values and mission, has been one of the most meaningful aspects of my professional journey.
What measures has your company taken to incorporate sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how can general counsel contribute to driving such initiatives within the organisation?
At APIVITA, sustainability is not a trend — it’s part of our DNA in the sense that every aspect of the business is guided by a deep respect for nature, people, and society. Our commitment is reflected in our long-standing B Corp certification, which measures how we create a positive impact beyond profit.
Sustainability is a collective effort. It requires awareness, consistency, and responsibility at every level. I believe that legal teams can play a meaningful role not just by reviewing policies, but also by being active participants in shaping a culture where integrity, transparency, and care for people and the planet are everyday principles.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
A cause that deeply resonates with me is the idea of doing business with purpose — and with soul. This belief has been part of my journey at APIVITA from the very beginning, and it’s beautifully captured in the words of our founder:
“We didn’t create APIVITA to become the biggest company in the world, but to be the best for the world.”
These words are not just a motto — they’re a mindset. They remind me every day that business should be a force for good. I’m passionate about contributing to any company that respects nature, empowers people, and prioritizes ethical responsibility alongside performance.
