Special aide to the governor and advisor - corporate governance and stakeholder management | Bank of Ghana

What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

Over the past twelve months, I have been instrumental in onboarding the Bank’s new Management and Board, leveraging my experience in my previous role as The Secretary to the bank and Board Secretary. My work involved briefing the Board on key legacy matters, regulatory and compliance issues, and strategic projects, ensuring continuity, institutional memory, and informed decision-making.

I also led the Board induction and governance training, focusing on fiduciary responsibilities, risk oversight, regulatory compliance, and ethical leadership. This strengthened Board effectiveness and entrenched a governance culture during a critical transition period.

Currently, I am developing Standard Operating Procedures for the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Office, in line with the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663), as amended. The SOPs are designed to embed transparency, accountability, value-for-money, and sustainability into CSR initiatives while ensuring full compliance with public-sector governance requirements.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

The modern in-house counsel must act as a strategic advisor, governance leader, risk manager, and ethical compass. Beyond legal expertise, they must integrate law with commercial, regulatory, and ESG considerations, ensuring that advice supports long-term institutional value.

Key attributes include strategic and commercial awareness, translating legal advice into actionable business decisions. Judgment and prioritisation are key: the ability to identify material risks and deliver pragmatic solutions. Modern in-house counsel must be able to communitcate at board-level. clearly presenting complex legal issues to executives and directors. Integrity and independence are essential, providing principled advice under pressure. General counsel must also display leadership, mentoring teams, influencing culture, and taking ownership of governance outcomes.

In today’s environment, the most effective in-house counsel safeguards the organisation while enabling sustainable growth and strategic objectives.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am deeply committed to ethical governance and sustainable development through law. I view legal frameworks not merely as compliance tools, but also as levers for building resilient, accountable, and future-ready institutions.

This passion is expressed in my focus on corporate governance, ESG, and responsible finance, particularly within public and emerging-market institutions. I am also committed to mentorship and capacity building, helping develop the next generation of lawyers and professionals who can advance ethical leadership and institutional integrity.

At its core, my professional purpose is to use legal expertise to protect institutions, enhance accountability, and enable responsible growth that delivers long-term public and commercial value.
