Antoine Genevois has immense experience of Areva’s key competencies and overall mission in the energy sector, having been employed by Areva Group companies since 2003. Now, Genevois heads the legal function at Areva NP, the nuclear power arm of the group. Since joining, Genevois has been a stabilising force and has helped develop the legal team into the impressive function that it is today. Areva has been at the forefront of the development of nuclear power, something that France has been a world leader in, since the 1950s. This, along with the fact that nuclear power is an extremely highly regulated and controversial topic, means that the legal team is responsible for a very demanding workload. The team’s strategy for dealing with the myriad of challenges facing them is one that has knowledge-sharing and flexibility as its core tenets, with close cooperation between different teams and a versatility in approach prioritised. This is especially important given that the company enacts a significant amount of cross-border contracts, for instance the April 2017 announcement of a successful deal to provide outage services to Southern Nuclear Operating Company’s nuclear power plant in Dothan, Alabama.
