What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?
I consider 2025 to have been a highly successful year. All the cases and projects in which I, together with the legal team, was involved concluded successfully. The Legal Department at Huawei is closely integrated with all areas of the company, which means we are engaged in numerous projects, daily operations, legal opinions, and more. My approach is based on open doors, kindness, and readiness to support, which has helped ensure that the legal department is well recognised internally and its importance and value are clearly seen.
Among the most significant cases and projects, I would highlight the acceptance by the company to reduce accounts receivable through treasury bonds, where swift negotiation and excellent results supported pending collections and financial outcomes. Another key achievement was the successful closure of several court and administrative cases, or cessions of rights, resulting in savings of several million US dollars.
Additionally, we executed the closure of our branch in Ecuador. Previously, we operated both a branch and a subsidiary; we consolidated operations under the subsidiary. The process was completed rapidly and smoothly, earning congratulations and awards from the company for the efficiency and effectiveness of the closure.
Other noteworthy contributions include providing analysis and support in cybersecurity and data protection, as well as assisting with applications for tax refunds with the authorities and supporting other tax-related processes.
Given the current geopolitical shifts and growing uncertainties around international free trade, has your company’s risk profile evolved, and are you taking measures to address these challenges?
Yes, of course. Over the past few years, our company’s risk profile has evolved significantly in many areas, and as the legal department we need to be aware of this, support the company in implementing measures, and help other departments understand the situation, the challenges, and the changes required.
Regarding the current geopolitical shifts, the company has evolved in many areas to control risks, with particular attention to cybersecurity, data protection, and AI. As a telecommunications and ICT company, we place strong emphasis on cybersecurity throughout the entire process, from factory production to project deployment. Our team is very professional, our engineers understand the risks, and I consider that the company is investing and actively working in these areas, demonstrating the importance we assign to them among other critical matters.
