What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?
This past year, I led the legal and regulatory strategy behind a significant equity investment in a logistics park involving national and international stakeholders. The project features innovative infrastructure, significant job creation and will strategically position the Dominican Republic as a logistics alternative in the region, in line with the global nearshoring trends. My role involved aligning legal and regulatory strategies across complex real estate, corporate, and risk factors, to ensure the fund’s interests were fully protected.
From a regulatory perspective, for over 12 years, I have been actively engaged in discussions on key market regulations, and most recently in the implementation of the Cybersecurity and Information Security framework to protect one of our most valuable assets: information. I am an active member of the Legal Committee of the Investment Funds Association and the Justice Commission of the Dominican Young Entrepreneurs’ Association.
I have also fostered collaboration with legal teams and participated in the Board of Directors of our portfolio companies to help elevate governance and compliance standards across them.
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
I see the legal, regulatory and compliance perspective as the source of structure, clarity, and continuity in periods of instability. I emphasise and value preparation. Deep regulatory knowledge, sector awareness, and risk foresight are essential to confident decision-making. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to suddenly migrate to remote work. Our team’s ability to respond and mutual trust enabled ALTIO to maintain full operations and grow. Cross-functional awareness and communication were key to implementing more effective measures during this period. I advocate for structured flexibility: adapting where and when needed, remaining grounded in core values.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
A defining moment in my career was the transition from generalist legal work into capital markets. I began in a well-known firm, as a multidisciplinary lawyer handling civil and labour litigation, contract negotiation, corporate structuring, and transactional law, supported by a General LL.M. That broad foundation gave me the tools to approach complex deals holistically.
As the capital markets continued to develop, and investment funds arose in the Dominican Republic, I found myself fascinated by its dynamism and regulatory complexity.
This shift gave me a unique perspective that allows me to manage interconnected legal and business issues with depth and agility. This cross-functional interaction enriches my perspective and adds infinite value to my legal role.
How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?
At ALTIO, most strategic decisions involve the legal team. We take the leadership in the structuring and launch of new investment funds and identify the viability and risks of investment proposals. My approach is business-oriented, supported by a deep legal knowledge, creativity and structuring expertise.
