How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
During periods of instability or crisis, I minimised risks for both the department and the company by refining the legal risk early warning mechanism, intervening proactively in relevant risk matters with legal measures, identifying legal risks at the earliest stage, conducting full-process monitoring, and enhancing inter-departmental communication and team collaboration.
Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?
During my career, I have led and facilitated the establishment and investment of several major industrial funds. Notably, the Dongfeng Automobile Semiconductor Industry Fund (with a scale of RMB 2bn) was the first state-backed private equity fund under Dongfeng Group and Bank of Communications Group dedicated to investing in electric vehicles and semiconductor chips. From preparation to final establishment, this project took the longest time. I was stationed in Wuhan for nearly a year with various company departments and teams, during which we collectively resolved numerous complex legal and compliance issues related to the fund’s setup, ultimately leading to the successful establishment of the large-scale industrial fund.
Given the current geopolitical shifts and growing uncertainties around international free trade, has your company’s risk profile evolved, and are you taking measures to address these challenges?
The current geopolitical shifts and uncertainties in international trade have altered the company’s risk profile. I now place greater emphasis on changes in investment and tax policies between China and the U.S., as well as other countries worldwide. When establishing funds and making venture capital investments, I pay closer attention to the risks arising from international policies. In addition to assessing industrial risks, I incorporate international policy risks into the evaluation process, striving to avoid investing in project companies subject to sanctions and ensuring more comprehensive legal risk control measures.
