Legal and Regulatory Manager | MRO HOLDINGS

Team size: Six

What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?

Since joining the company, I have been part of the leadership team involved in its most critical operations. Without a doubt, the most significant projects have been the establishment of our new MRO facility in Rionegro, Colombia, as well as the expansion initiatives in El Salvador.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

My approach begins with a comprehensive risk assessment to identify vulnerabilities across regulatory and contractual areas. I prioritise clear communication with leadership, ensuring that legal considerations are integrated into strategic decision-making rather than treated as an afterthought. I believe resilience is achieved by striking out the right balance between strict legal compliance and pragmatic, business-oriented solutions that allow the organisation to adapt effectively during times of instability.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

I have been fortunate to be part of high-performing companies and, equally important, to be present at the right and decisive moments. One of those moments was when the company underwent a major corporate transformation and began its expansion during a period of significant regulatory change and even in the midst of a global pandemic. The greatest challenge, and also my most rewarding experience so far, has been to reconcile different regulatory frameworks and diverse cultural and business perspectives, while aligning them with the company’s cultural vision and governance design. What I truly enjoyed was the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from diverse cultures and backgrounds, which enriched both the process and the solutions we achieved. This experience reinforced for me the importance of viewing law not merely as a set of rules, but as a powerful tool to enable collaboration, innovation, and resilience.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

I have always believed that as an in house-counsel you must become the key partner for all leadership teams and business areas and actively participating in the company´s projects. A modern in-house counsel should act as a gatekeeper while also demonstrating adaptability and flexibility, providing clear and practical guidance by aligning legal frameworks with corporate objectives. Beyond that, I think today’s in-house counsel must also bring a forward-looking mindset embracing innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability, while fostering collaboration across diverse cultures and disciplines.
