DTS Counsel-Privacy Tech Compliance | Kimberly-Clark

Ana Carolina Alcalá Wilson
DTS Counsel-Privacy Tech Compliance | Kimberly-Clark
What are the most significant cases, projects, or transactions that you and your legal team have recently been involved in?
During the first half of the past year, my work was closely aligned with Kimberly‑Clark’s enterprise transformation strategy, publicly announced in 2024 and focused on simplifying operations, optimising the supply chain, and strengthening organisational agility. I was part of the regional legal team supporting organisational restructuring across multiple jurisdictions in Central America & Caribbean, working closely with Supply Chain, HR, Finance, and Communications to manage regulatory, contractual, employment and reputational risks while maintaining execution speed and alignment with strategic objectives.
As the transformation increasingly relied on digital enablement, my role expanded to encompass technology, data, and AI‑related initiatives, advising on privacy, governance, and responsible deployment to ensure innovation could scale in a compliant, trusted, and sustainable manner.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
Several trends stand out. First, data, AI, and digital regulation are evolving rapidly and now intersect directly with core business strategy, requiring legal teams to embed governance upstream. Second, continuous enterprise transformation, rather than one-time restructuring, is becoming the norm, increasing the need for integrated, cross-border legal advice spanning employment, privacy, regulatory, and commercial disciplines. Finally, in-house lawyers are increasingly expected to function as strategic enablers, particularly where technology, ethics, and reputation converge.
What do you think is the greatest innovation you have enacted in the past year?
The most significant innovation I have driven has been the integration of legal, privacy, and ethical governance into transformation and technology initiatives from the outset. By implementing practical, risk-based frameworks, embedding privacy- and AI-by-design principles at an early stage, and proactively upskilling business teams, the Legal function has evolved into a catalyst for faster progress.
