What projects are you most proud to have worked on over the past 12 months?

Scaling a “best-in-class” legal team: Hiive has been able to assemble a deep bench of legal talent by scaling its legal team to support Hiive’s rapidly expanding business. We have grown the team from two to four lawyers and one paralegal, all while leveraging innovative AI and other technology-based tools to operate effectively, leanly, and cost-effectively.

Building out a product counselling function: in supporting Hiive as a fintech company, the legal team aspires to be at the forefront of effective and innovative lawyering. This year, we formalised a product counselling function to ensure that Hiive’s team of innovators and product visionaries has embedded legal support with deep product context.

Fostering a culture of effective risk management: Hiive’s legal team believes in embodying a culture of effective risk management. In providing advice, we help the business understand, in practical terms, what the risk profile of a particular decision is. This drives sound business decisions, considering all manners of risk, including legal, commercial, and reputational.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

Throughout my career, I have built a truly cross-border practice. As a proud Canadian with a legal education in the U.S. (Cornell) and France (SciencesPo and La Sorbonne), and significant experience practicing in both the U.S. and Canada, as well as internationally, I bring a unique perspective to my practice. I can help clients navigate the intricacies and nuances of highly interconnected global markets more effectively.

How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company?

Since Hiive operates in the private securities trading space, a complex and intensely regulated world, we live and breathe our legal and compliance posture in everything we do. Unlike other tech companies where legal might be an afterthought, Hiive’s existence hinges on robust legal and compliance functions. Rather than being a blocker or an afterthought, Hiive’s legal team is linked with our key business stakeholders every step.
