What new pressures are you facing from the business as expectations for legal to act as a strategic partner continue to grow?
Legal is no longer the team that stop the deals. On the contrary, it is a strategical partner to support the company and to be aligned with the priorities of the business. It is important to know the product and its financials to help negotiate with the customer a win-win contract, always focusing on the need of the customer to sustain the growth of the company.
How is your organisation adapting to the rapid evolution of data protection, AI governance and cybersecurity requirements in Brazil?
As a global company and due to its regulated activity (aviation business), GE Aerospace follows the guidance of its headquarters in the USA, including regulations issued by the American authorities. The local in-house team is fundamental to keep the proper compliance with the local laws while aligned with the ones of its HQ. In this sense, we are asked to advise how the global strategy can affect the local market and if we are compliant with the regulations in each country that we do business with. AI has been the top priority for all of us and we are encouraged to use the proper tools that were developed for our company and, at the same time, we are encouraged to seek new opportunities. It is always a challenge as confidential and proprietary information must be secured and we are very careful about sharing them. The legal department is key to drive and support the different stakeholders to keep the company safe.
