Bunge’s history in Argentina dates as far back as 1884 when it launched a grain trading company in the expanding agribusiness market. Today it is one of the most important agribusiness companies within the region, with large operations across Latin America. Its legal team covering the Southern Cone countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay is headed by regional chief legal and insurance officer and director of governmental affairs Jose Castelli. His influence and reputation as an expert in structuring M&As is proving to have a positive effect on the legal team. In 2017, the legal function played a key role on Bunge Southern Cone’s acquisition of edible oil company Aceitera Martínez. In adding to the organisation’s position in the agricultural food chain and its commitment to national production, the deal demonstrates the team’s ability to contribute effectively to business expansion.
