Nicolás Camenduli joined AMC Networks in January 2014 as senior lawyer, and later became legal manager in November 2018, offering legal advice on various company projects. AMC Networks in Latin America is a business unit of AMC Networks International, which delivers entertaining and acclaimed programmes to more than 140 countries and territories. Its Latin American portfolio of channels include well-known brands such as AMC and the Sundance Channel. Despite being new to his position as legal manager and the fact that his team is at the early stage of formation, Camenduli actively tried to keep the department delivering quick and efficient answers to internal clients. To achieve this he ‘raised awareness to my young team about the importance of being efficient, not only because of the results of our work but also to demonstrate how proficient we could be even in an unfavourable situation’, he says. Camenduli highlights three main points of building a professional in-house career. He believes persistency is key to learn from mistakes: ‘It’s up to you to get paralysed or keep trying until you learn how to do things without mistakes. I went for the latter’. He also notes the importance of building good interpersonal relationships. In that sense in-house counsels should be seen as ‘good co-workers that people could talk to and trust’, and it helps others understand ‘your role as a lawyer’, he explains. Finally, Camenduli feels that it’s imperative to aim to become a better professional every day: ‘It’s important to keep reading doctrine and case law, and attending courses in order to keep improving as a lawyer’. Camenduli graduated in law from the University of Buenos Aires and holds a postgraduate degree in intellectual property from the Austral University.
