Agustín Herrera is Atanor’s legal and public relations director, holding responsibility for legal, government relations and media issues the company faces across Argentina, Brazil and China. Atanor produces and markets crop protection products, polymers, sugar and chemicals in seven manufacturing sites in Argentina and one in China. With direct responsibility for all legal environmental issues of Atanor’s chemical production sites, Herrera explains how he has to deal with ‘very varied legal questions and matters’. Herrera has been widely acclaimed for his diligence and experience in guiding both the legal and public relations departments of the company. Playing a pivotal role in communicating with the wider industry, his responsibilities include acting as the main contact with three Chemical Federations, two Sugar Federations and the eight unions that are part of them, ‘negotiating actively’ with each to secure the best deals for the company. His hard work and results-driven approach has seen him promoted to Atanor’s board of directors, and he has overtaken management of the company’s human resources department. Herrera was ‘one of the top leaders to negotiate and to execute the documents’ to establish a joint venture transaction in China, also showing his and his team’s value whilst facing difficult financial times. Herrera explains that ‘my company was on technical default and we supported the negotiation and the way in which we restructured our debt, reducing it from $210m to the current $30m’, demonstrating the tangible impact of the team’s work. He is also involved in industry-shaping activities, being an Association of Corporate Counsel Member and treasurer of the Argentinean Chapter of the committee.
