About

Etisalat Misr is a subsidiary of Emirati telecommunication company Etisalat UAE, and was first launched in May 2007, soon after Etisalat announced the 3G services launch in Cairo. As the first 3.5G network operator in Egypt and one of 15 service providers managed by Etisalat in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, the legal team is required to react quickly to the frequent changes and launches of new functions and improvements. Key successful points include the July 30th 2001 granting of the 2G license, the December 2nd 2013 granting of the 3G licence and finally the September 4th 2016 granting of the 4G license. Led by highly distinguished general counsel Dr Mohamed Shehata, who brings a range of experience from previous legal roles, the legal team possesses a strong level of competence in matters involving employment, intellectual property, insurance, and corporate disputes. They have set the legal foundation in order for Etisalat Misr to have an exclusive international gateway, making it unique in the way it provides its services across the country, and enabling the operator to offer the first downlink speeds up to 7.2 megabit per second which is two times faster than 3.5G downlink speeds. Further strengthening the company’s product portfolio, the team assisted in Etisalat Misr’s acquisition of two well established internet service providers, Nile On Line and EgyNet, subsequently acquiring two subsidiaries shortly after. Thanks to this acquisition, Etisalat is offering ADSL service along with the usual mobile services.
