Appointed as a group legal counsel at Asia’s leading agribusiness group Wilmar in August 2009, Teo La Mei today oversees global legal affairs across over 50 countries.

Over the past several years La Mei has done considerable amount of work focusing on Africa, enabling the group’s strategy to increase its presence on the continent, as it hunts for raw materials and expands beyond its traditional markets in Asia. Today, La Mei coordinates legal support for the company’s palm oil plantations in the Ivory Coast, Uganda and Ghana, and supports the development of new plantations in Nigeria.

La Mei also serves as a company secretary and legal counsel for Shangri-La Hotel Group, where she has worked since 1988. Prior to joining Wilmar, she worked as a company secretary at Kuok Group for 22 years.
