Formerly an associate at one of the most prestigious law firms in Ghana, Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah and a legal counsel with MTN Ghana, Juliet Manteaw-Kutin has been head of legal services and company secretary of major gold extraction company AngloGold Ashanti in Ghana since November 2013. She assumed the role at a challenging period in the history of the company, making optimizing legal expenses high on her agenda in order to align with the overall business strategy on cost management.

She attributes her significant reduction in legal expenses to improved internal dispute prevention processes, careful selection and management of external counsel and the negotiation of alternative billing. Alongside these internal improvements, she has worked on a number of exciting projects initiated by the company, which has enhanced her knowledge in many non-legal areas including commerce, crisis management and stakeholder engagement.

The range of improvements, projects and business objectives she has been able to achieve since being with AngloGold Ashanti Ghana show Manteaw-Kutin to be a top-level operator in the mining in-house legal sector.
