Could you tell us a bit about your significant successes in your role?

Prior to joining any company as in-counsel, my professional experience began in law firms that have been top ranked, nationally and internationally. For some years, my practice focused on antitrust, and competition matters which allowed me not only to expand my knowledge over different industries and practice areas, but also to understand how constant changes within social, political and technological environments influence the behaviour and growth of companies. Now, as legal counsel of a company which has a lot of influence within the financial and technology industries, I have learned that it is very important to always bear in mind that changes, no matter how insignificant they may be, have a great impact in Klar’s day-to-day operations. Being involved in all internal and governmental procedures required to transform the company into a potential financial technology company has undoubtedly been one of the biggest challenges I have faced as legal counsel.

In your opinion, what are the qualities and skills needed to form a strong legal team?

To build a strong legal team I believe that it is very important to be surrounded by people who have openness, a go-getter attitude, ambition, willingness to continue learning, social skills, empathy, a sense of responsibility, adaptability and humbleness. Your team should encourage not only long-term professional relationships but also personal relationships.

What is the biggest risk to your industry or organisation and how are you contributing to prepare your organisation for this?

In Mexico, the biggest risks for the financial and technology industries I see, are the political environment and the bureaucracy of government regulators that, in the end, have the power to decide whether they would like to boost the growth of Mexico, improve the quality of services provided by companies, and most importantly, encourage the participation of young entrepreneurs.
