Česká spořitelna is the biggest Czech bank measured by the number of customers, and has its headquarters located in Prague. Made up of 32 lawyers and six support staff members, the legal unit is led by director of legal services Petr Liška, and is divided into two departments; one department is headed by Jan Svoboda and is responsible for providing legal support to the branches of the bank and overlooks non-credit risk related litigations. The other department is headed by head of the legal department, Štefan Elek, who provides legal support to the head office of the bank, focusing on banking regulation, internal rules and templates of contractual documentation and provides legal support for financial markets and investment services, payment services, mortgages and consumer credits, as well as reviewing contracts with IT and non IT suppliers of the bank. ‘The strong team spirit is reached by close cooperation of lawyers within the teams and sharing of information and knowledge. Each output of the legal unit is a result of internal cooperation and sharing within the teams of legal unit’ says legal counsel Kateřina Hádková, another outstanding individual within the department.
