What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

In addition to significant credit matters, my team has been involved in a transfer pricing litigation this year. Transfer pricing is a nascent tax area in Uganda and we believe that our particular matter will not only resolve our areas of contention, but will also form the basis for much-needed jurisprudence in this area.

How is your legal function leveraging technology to enhance efficiency in areas such as contract management and compliance monitoring? 

The Stanbic Legal team has developed a bespoke technology platform to manage our entire litigation portfolio, which is one of the lager risk management responsibilities we have. The tool enables the visibility of all aspects of every single litigation in our universe and has also been enhanced to capture pre-litigation disputes. The utilization of this tool has enabled the production of more insightful reports to the executive team and to the board and has availed better tracking capabilities. In addition to technology in litigation management, the team has also embarked on the utilization of Copilot on an exploratory basis, mainly for document formulation (contract management).
