This project is expected to unlock a new revenue stream for the logistics division.

Have you had any experiences during your career as a lawyer that stand out as particularly unique or interesting?

If any, I have had the opportunity to lead the Corporate Communications function in addition to my legal responsibilities. At a certain stage, the company faced complex regulatory and community-related issues that required not only legal structuring, but also clear, strategic communication with external stakeholders and the media. My leaders trusted me in that role, which gave me a different perspective on the impact of legal decisions beyond contracts and regulatory filings. I actively participated in media engagements, helping explain sensitive matters in a way that should be easy for a non-lawyer audience. It reinforced my belief that legal risk is often intertwined with reputational risk, and that managing both requires alignment between legal analysis and communication strategy.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In my view, the most important attributes go far beyond legal expertise, which must be a given. Today, an in-house counsel must have strategic acumen and business literacy. A lawyer must understand the company’s economic drivers: CAPEX decisions, EBITDA targets, regulatory exposure, and competitive landscape, and thus, be able to translate legal risk into business impact. Also, a modern lawyer should anticipate rather than react by participating early in strategic discussions, structuring legally sound pathways that enable growth and protect long-term value. Finally, strong communication skills are also critical: risk must be explained in clear, commercially relevant terms to CEOs and boards.
