How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
With more than 20 years of experience, I have learned that crises require clarity, speed, and alignment with the business. My approach is based on three pillars: anticipation, coordination, and containment. I work closely with the CEO, CFO, COO and operational leaders to evaluate legal risk in real time and convert uncertainty into clear action plans. In crisis scenarios—whether regulatory, financial, or reputational—I prioritise protecting business continuity while safeguarding governance and stakeholder confidence. My legal strategy is always aligned with the broader business strategy: understanding how the company grows, finances itself, and creates value allows me to deliver legal solutions that are practical, risk-based and immediately implementable.
What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?
Most recently, I led the legal and compliance work for a US$D 2 bn.hospitality transaction, coordinating cross-border teams across Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, and Uruguay. This included structuring, due diligence, financing documents, governance frameworks, and regulatory approvals, while ensuring that closing requirements were fully aligned with the financiers and operational stakeholders. I also oversaw debt refinancing processes, security packages, POAs, board resolutions, and lender compliance in multiple jurisdictions. In parallel, I led the development of a new Compliance Program, risk matrices and governance tools to accompany the company’s expansion strategy.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
I currently lead a legal and compliance team composed of women and men lawyers, each with strong technical and leadership potential. I believe diversity is not a slogan; it is about access to responsibility, visibility, and growth. I focus on creating an environment of merit, trust and professional development by ensuring equal participation in strategic projects, recognition of performance, and access to external training and leadership opportunities. I also encourage a culture of collaboration and accountability, where inclusion is reflected in the day-to-day decision-making and not only in corporate policies.
