Career Biography:

Rita Evelyn Kabatunzi is a respected corporate lawyer and chartered governance practitioner with 20 years of corporate experience with a diverse wealth of experience across Law, Governance, Risk and Strategy.

Her corporate experience spans across two companies listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange as Company Secretary at Stanbic Uganda Holdings, Stanbic Bank Uganda and, previously, as Company Secretary/Head Legal at Vision Group. Her experience is comprised of corporate legal and governance advisory in a multinational group structure. In the span of her career, she has supported multiple boards, advised six Chairpersons and six CEOs. She has advised on corporate actions including public share offerings, organisational reorganisations and restructures and most notably served as the project lead for an oversubscribed rights issue at Vision Group. She set up the Legal Department at Vision Group and the Governance Department at Stanbic Uganda Holdings. Both are thriving departments to date.

Kabatunzi is the Founder of the Annual ICSA Mentorship Program, which is aimed at equipping rising professionals with practical skills. The program, in its fifth cohort, now boasts a reach of over 100 members/alumni. She is a frequent contributor to Corporate Governance Africa, an online video publication that seeks to elevate governance by sharing knowledge across Africa and beyond.

Kabatunzi is particularly passionate about building an appreciation of the role and interplay between corporate structure, corporate players and corporate governance in organisational success.
