How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In times of uncertainty, we adopt a proactive, flexible legal framework closely integrated with our core operations. By addressing legal considerations early, we can identify potential risks, respond to regulatory shifts, and align solutions with broader corporate objectives.

In real estate, where projects range from office and residential to mixed-use developments, we prioritise ESG standards, market volatility, and sustainable practices. Our approach involves thorough risk assessments, involving key stakeholders from the outset to ensure legal input shapes project strategies and timelines.

Maintaining high ethical standards and compliance with initiatives like the EU taxonomy strengthens reputational integrity and fosters resilience that extends beyond immediate challenges.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

Our legal team at NCC Property Development oversees a wide spectrum of legal and transactional matters. Despite being relatively small, we are recognised for our specialised expertise, commercial insight, and integrity. Recent noteworthy transactions include:

Facilitating the 2022 divestment of Genmab’s new headquarters in Valby, Copenhagen, to Industriens Pension. Valued at approximately SEK 875 million, the property covers 16,000 square meters plus adjacent parking for 285 vehicles.

Negotiating several option agreements in 2023 and 2024, securing more than 50,000 square meters of residential building rights in Greater Copenhagen, subject to final district plan approval.

Additionally, we have played key roles in numerous development projects across Denmark, including Frederiks Plads and Omega Company House in Aarhus, as well as Kontorværket II in Valby and COPEN on Amager Boulevard in Copenhagen.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Transformative technologies reshaping legal work include automated contract review and data analytics, which streamline processes and enhance accuracy. AI-driven tools offer insights into market trends and regulatory risks, critical in fast-evolving real estate projects. Cloud-based solutions enable seamless collaboration among architects, engineers, contractors, investors, and legal teams, ensuring efficient document sharing and project management.

To keep pace, we attend legal tech conferences, cultivate continuous professional development, and engage with external advisors who bring fresh perspectives. This forward-looking mindset helps us embed technology in ways that align with regulatory changes and commercial objectives.
