Career Biography

Michelle K. Chan is a Managing Director at Ares Management Corporation where she is responsible for legal matters in the Asia Real Estate business.  She joined Ares in March 2025 upon the completion of Ares’ acquisition of the international business of GLP Capital Partners Limited.  Michelle joined GLP Pte Ltd in 2019 as the Assistant General Counsel and took on the position of Asia General Counsel upon the restructuring and spin out of the fund management business into GLP Capital Partners.  While at GLP and GCP, she led the legal team on fundraising activity globally and worked on key strategic transactions.  Prior to moving in-house, Michelle had practiced in Hong Kong and New York with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld where she focused on mergers and acquisitions.  She began her career as an associate at Slaughter and May in Hong Kong.  Michelle holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and a Juris Doctor, both from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
