What are the most significant cases, projects and/or transactions that you and/or your legal team have recently been involved in?

In 2025 I was involved in a large matter involving the breach of a restraint of trade by two ex-Senior Employees of the Group. This is an ongoing matter involving an Anton Piller application, interdict applications and damages claims. There is also a potential claim against a competitor for unlawful competition. We are seeking to interdict ex-employees from soliciting clients and staff of the Group and recover legal costs as well as damages for clients already lost. This matter is complex and has required substantial time and co-ordination with our legal advisors. Q2 – How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience? A2 – During periods of instability or crisis it is key to ensure that there is strong engagement and communication with key stakeholders. The first step is to identify all the key stakeholders impacted by and involved in the crisis and then agree a communication strategy which will include crisis communications and regular touch points. I will ensure that there is agreement as to who is mandated to make decisions relating to service provider appointment and financial matters. I will stress that decisions need to be made fast and that all stakeholders need to provide the necessary mandate to the key decision maker/s. I have a panel of legal experts to consult on various matters and these solid relationships make it easier to quickly respond to crisis situations.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?
In any organisation, it is important that the legal department / general counsel foster strong relationships with all business units to ensure that the legal team is viewed as a business enabler. A legal team that is respected within the organisation will more likely be included in key business decisions relating to ESG matters and will have the opportunity to guide the business to make decisions that are legal and compliant.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about? Why is this?

I have a strong passion for supporting a raising awareness for differently abled runners / athletes. I run for the Chaeli Sports and Recreation Club which is a sports club for runners and cyclists with disabilities and wheelchair dancers. I participate in various races for the club and often use these events as fundraising opportunities. The reason for my passion is that my younger twin sisters have Cerebral Palsy, and both run, despite their disability.
