How do you build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, especially in high-pressure or fast-moving scenarios?

Maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders requires a combination of interpersonal and effective communication skills. Active listening allows us to understand the concerns of other departments. Fulfilling commitments, being transparent, proactive, the collaborative approach, and timely conflict management will build a relationship of trust. It is also important to carry out tasks with adaptability and flexibility, which will allow us to be more agile and easily adapt to constant changes. Finally, it is important to seek creative and innovative solutions to complex problems, understanding the needs of other departments.

What do you consider the biggest challenge for in-house legal teams today, and how are you addressing it within your own team?

One of the biggest challenges facing in-house legal teams today is keeping up with rapidly evolving national and international regulations and adapting to rapidly advancing new technologies. To address these challenges, ongoing training on new regulations and technologies is provided, involving legal teams from Peru and other Santander countries. Technological tools have been implemented to manage the implementation of new applicable regulations. Likewise, we seek to innovate in the execution of legal tasks by implementing technological tools that can minimize operational risks and generate synergies and efficiencies, serving several companies within the Santander Group.

How do you cultivate legal talent internally, and what skills do you see as most essential for the next generation of in-house lawyers?

Legal talent is cultivated internally by providing: ongoing training for lawyers on both legal and non-legal topics; the opportunity to form working groups involving lawyers from different countries; the opportunity to participate in international work exchange programs, which provides the opportunity to work in different countries where Santander operates; and providing opportunities for independent development, allowing lawyers to participate in mentoring programs and generate ongoing professional growth through regular and timely feedback. On the other hand, I believe the most essential skills for the next generation of in-house lawyers are: knowledge of new technological tools for application in the legal field; communication and adaptability skills, which will allow them to convey clear and precise messages and quickly adapt to changes in both regulations and technology; and critical thinking, which allows them to evaluate different situations from different perspectives and thus make decisions that integrate solutions and mitigate risks.
