How do you build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, especially in high-pressure or fast-moving scenarios?

At LATAM Airlines Perú, building trust and alignment with key internal stakeholders is essential given the fast-paced and highly regulated nature of the aviation industry. My approach is rooted in proactive communication and deep business integration. I ensure that my team and I are seen not just as legal advisors but as strategic partners who understand the company’s commercial needs. In high-pressure situations, such as crisis management or operational disruptions, we prioritise clarity, agility, and solution-oriented thinking. Regular cross-functional meetings, clear delegation of responsibilities, and a culture of openness allow us to respond swiftly while maintaining compliance and safeguarding the company’s reputation. Ultimately, sustained relationships are built on trust, reliability and a demonstrated commitment to shared objectives.

What do you consider the biggest challenge for in-house legal teams today, and how are you addressing it within your own team?

One of the biggest challenges today is balancing the growing complexity of regulatory environments with the demand for agile, business-oriented solutions. In a globalised and highly scrutinised sector like aviation, legal teams must navigate evolving compliance requirements while fostering innovation and operational efficiency. At LATAM Airlines Perú, we address this by promoting a culture of continuous learning and adaptability, with a particular focus on adopting innovative tools and technologies that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our work. Our goal is to be anticipatory rather than reactive, identifying risks early and providing pragmatic, forward-thinking advice that aligns with the company’s strategic objectives.

How do you cultivate legal talent internally, and what skills do you see as most essential for the next generation of in-house lawyers?

Cultivating legal talent is a cornerstone of our long-term success. I focus on developing both technical excellence and business acumen within my team. We encourage rotations across different legal areas to build versatility, and I mentor team members to help them align their career aspirations with the company’s evolving needs. I believe the next generation of in-house lawyers must master not only legal expertise but also strategic thinking, digital literacy, and emotional intelligence. The ability to translate complex legal issues into actionable business advice, while managing relationships effectively across diverse teams and swiftly adapting to change, particularly by embracing new technologies, will define the leaders of tomorrow.
