Career Biography

Tolulope Alade is a seasoned legal and compliance professional with over ten (10) years outstanding contributions to the Nigerian legal system. Armed with a solid educational background and extensive experience in legal, company secretarial, and governance matters, Tolulope has distinguished herself as a trusted advisor and strategic leader in her field. Tolulope Alade graduated with honors from the University of Lagos, where she earned a Bachelor of Laws degree with a second class upper division. She continued her academic journey at the Nigerian Law School, graduating with similar accolades, further cementing her foundation in legal expertise. 

She commenced her legal career at Banwo & Ighodalo, a Tier 1 law firm, where she honed her skills and expertise in legal practice, company secretarial, and governance matters. Subsequently, Tolulope joined FMDQ Securities Exchange Limited, assuming the role of Company Secretary. In this capacity, she provided invaluable strategic guidance to the Board of Directors and relevant stakeholders, while also overseeing compliance functions to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices. 

Driven by a passion for innovation and growth, Tolulope switched to financial technology, joining Cowrywise Financial Technology Limited as the first Head, Compliance of the company. In this role, she played a pivotal role in navigating the regulatory landscape liaising with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Nigeria to provide fund management services. Her meticulous attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance contributed significantly to the company’s success and reputation as a trusted wealth manager. Recognising her exceptional leadership and legal acumen, Tolulope was promoted to Head, Legal & Compliance at Cowrywise Financial Technology Limited in less than a year of joining Cowrywise. In this dual role, she oversees all legal and compliance functions, ensuring that the company operates within the bounds of the law while driving strategic initiatives to support business growth and innovation. More recently, Tolulope was promoted to Associate Vice President, Legal & Compliance, where she assumes a broader strategic mandate, leading the company’s legal, compliance, and governance functions and contributing to enterprise-wide decision-making. 

In 2024, Tolulope was recognised by Legal 500 in its inaugural GC Powerlist: Nigeria 2024 and was also honored as a Legal Rising Star at the 40 Under 40 Legal Awards by ESQ Legal. In 2025, she was further recognised as a Distinguished General Counsel at the Legal Era Africa Law Awards.
