Career Biography
My current role as General Counsel includes oversight and management of the legal issues for Chevron in Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon. We are business lawyers who possess a deep knowledge of the business and provide extensive support on a myriad of varied issues across the referenced coverage areas including transactional work, contracting and procurement, compliance, dispute resolution etc. These include the US$1.4 billion financing package from a consortium of international and local banks to undertake a multi-year drilling program (2022 – 2026) consisting of 37 wells in the offshore & onshore Escravos area and associated facilities, the operationalization of the Petroleum Industry Act, entry into Oil Prospecting License 215 to boost deepwater development opportunities etc.
The passing of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 and the associated regulations were a significant change, and Chevron has been operationalizing same in its operations. We have committed to further exploration and development of oil and gas resources by converting all the Oil Mining Leases (OML) in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited/Chevron Nigeria Limited Joint Venture and OML 127 in the deepwater to Petroleum Mining Leases and Petroleum Prospecting Licenses. We achieved certain key milestones including the renewal of critical deepwater leases, the resolution of some legacy disputes and progressively implementing the Host Community Development Trust regulations under the PIA. We have also progressed execution of our infill drilling programs as part of the efforts to improve the current production base upon which the future can be sustained. These are all attributable to extensive collaboration and partnership with key internal and external stakeholders.
