Executive vice president and Chief legal officer | The New York Times Company
Diane Brayton is the executive vice president and chief legal officer of The New York Times. In her role, she leads a legal team responsible for providing counsel on matters including media and intellectual property law, corporate governance and securities compliance, commercial transactions, employment and labour relations, and litigation management. Additionally, Brayton oversees the company’s corporate security and occupational health and safety operations. Brayton previously held the positions of general counsel (2017 to 2024) and corporate secretary (2011 to 2023) for the company. She joined The Times’s legal department in 2004.
In 2019, Brayton joined the board of directors of the Committee to Protect Journalists, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to the advancement of press freedom worldwide. Brayton earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska and J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law, where she graduated with honours.
