VP, General counsel Africa & Middle East | Siemens Energy
Dr. Florian Koemm
VP, General counsel Africa & Middle East | Siemens Energy
Team size: 21 for Africa Middle East, 7 for Legal and Compliance Operations
What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?
In the last year, there were two key projects that required my attention: the merger of the our two regional Hubs Africa and Middle East into one; and setting up Siemens Energy’s newly created Legal & Compliance Operations Team, a team focused on making sure that everyone in Siemens Energy dealing with a Legal & Compliance related topic has the best possible experience and that such experience is available at its fingertips. Through creating an easily accessible work infrastructure, we wish to energise, transform and simplify the way how the Legal & Compliance team works and cooperates with its business partners, ultimately improving the company’s position in our field.
What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
Communication and networking skills, tech savviness, business acumen, and, above all, leadership skills.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive work environment?
I make sure diversity and inclusion is an ever-present topic in our team, not just when hiring or on the occasion of certain dates celebrating a certain cause. I further ensure that unleashing the productivity that diverse teams carry requires (a lot more) management (than required for non-diverse teams), leadership and an inclusion effort for everyone to undertake.
