What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

Today’s in-house counsel must combine legal mastery with business acumen, technological fluency and emotional intelligence. The role demands the ability to anticipate risks, understand the organisation’s value drivers and communicate complex legal concepts in clear, actionable terms. Adaptability and resilience are equally critical in an environment of constant disruption.

Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on, of which you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful?

I am closely watching the intersection of AI and legal services, particularly the evolving regulatory frameworks governing AI use and data management. I’m also monitoring ESG disclosure obligations and the increasing enforcement focus on greenwashing claims, both of which will shape corporate risk profiles in the years ahead.  

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am deeply committed to advancing access to legal education and mentoring young lawyers. I believe that equipping the next generation with both technical skills and ethical grounding strengthens not only the profession, but also society as a whole.
