Career Biography
In December 2024, Natalia Aguirre assumed, in addition to her responsibilities as General Counsel of Grupo Financiero Citibanamex (now Banamex), the responsibility of leading the security and investigation’s function, as well as the creation and leadership of the Ethics Office for Banamex. Prior to this, in July 2021, Natalia was appointed as General Counsel of Grupo Financiero Citibanamex. In her role, Natalia oversees all legal affairs for Grupo Financiero Banamex, including its corporate governance, and serves as the principal legal advisor to the CEO and his management team. She is responsible for strategically leading all legal and for the provision of legal services by her team to the entire Banamex organisation. In January 2022, with the announcement of the divestiture of Citi’s consumer and commercial business in Mexico, Natalia assumed, in addition to her responsibilities, that of leading the strategy of interaction with Mexican regulators to enable the separation of the financial groups and subsequent divestiture.
Natalia joined in Citi in 1996 and Citibanamex in 2016 as Deputy General Counsel. Prior to her arrival in Mexico, she held different roles within Citi’s legal organisation. From 2011 until 2016, she was the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Citibank Colombia and its subsidiaries. Prior to that, she served as Senior Regional Counsel, responsible for overseeing Treasury, TTS, Loans, M&A and other cross-border transactions across several countries in the Latam region. In addition, she served for over three years as Legal Head of Citi Colfondos, Citi’s pension fund business in Colombia. After serving three years as Deputy General Counsel at Citibanamex, in 2019, Natalia was appointed General Counsel for the Consumer (Bank) and Asset Management Business in Citibanamex (Afore and Insurance).
Natalia was selected as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico by Forbes Mexico magazine in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and in June 2024 as one of the best corporate lawyers by Forbes Mexico magazine, and one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Business by Expansion Magazine in 2023 and 2024. Natalia also received the award for Corporate Law by the magazine Líderes Mexicanos, 2024 and has been selected for the Legal 500 GC Powerlist Mexico 2023 and 2024 and for the Legal 500 Green Powerlist, Mexico 2024 and 2025.
Natalia has a bachelor’s degree in law from the Universidad del Rosario in Colombia and postgraduate studies in Commercial Law from the Universidad de los Andes and in Contractual Law from the Universidad Externado of Colombia. In 2019, she obtained the accreditation of Bachelor’s in law degree in Mexico and she is licensed to practice law both in Colombia and Mexico. She is married and has two children.
