How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

“First we resolve, then we mourn.” These words from my father shaped my approach to crisis management.They taught me to focus on solutions rather than being overwhelmed by adversity.

In times of instability, I ground my work in focus, objectivity, and mental clarity, essential traits for assessing challenges with precision and building effective legal strategies.

My approach always aligns with the broader business strategy, ensuring organisational resilience and continuity. I strive to be a trusted business partner, guided by clear objectives, a commitment to the highest ethical standards, and the conviction that my role has a tangible impact on the company’s performance, its employees, and society at large.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

Given that Colgate Mexico is the largest subsidiary outside the United States and boasts Colgate’s biggest manufacturing facility, our operation involves a significant number of major transactions in all areas of law.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

The company has deeply embedded sustainability into its core business operations through a comprehensive strategy that includes environmental stewardship, social impact, and product innovation. As the General Counsel of Mexico, my role is crucial in ensuring and driving sustainable practices within Colgate-Palmolive, primarily through governance, compliance, and risk management.

I find it incredibly rewarding to work for a company that consistently aligns its actions with its mission and values. While all the company’s initiatives are motivating, I am particularly moved by programs like “Operation Smile” and “Bright Smiles, Bright Futures,” which over the years have benefited millions of Mexican children.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

I stand for open and transparent recruitment processes where people interested in working at our company are able to apply. I personally believe true diversity is achieved by valuing each individual’s unique contributions.

This philosophy is especially relevant when developing young talent. For our internship programs, the only requirement is a positive and proactive attitude, combined with a clear aspiration to grow within a global legal organisation.
