Posting an annual revenue figure of over $10bn, Infosys is a leading Indian IT firm and global leader in technology services and consulting. A key part of Infosys’ growing global presence of almost 200,000 employees is a legal team led by global general counsel Inderpreet Sawhney, who assumed the position in January 2017. After Sawhney joined, the company’s chief executive officer Dr. Vishal Sikka, said ‘[Sawhney] has a strong and diverse, global experience over a career spanning [over] 24 years, and her expertise will be integral to the transformation journey we are on’. Other important figures in the department are Karthik Kannappan who is general counsel for Infosys BPO, the parent company’s business process outsourcing subsidiary as well as Anjali Balagopal, the current head of intellectual property. Whilst Kannappan is highlighted as a key figure rendering effective legal assistance to various heads of departments and ensuring a close alignment between business functions and the legal team, Balagopal is recognised for managing global teams of in-house and external lawyers to handle multibillion dollar transactions across jurisdictions for the company. Most recently, Infosys in-house lawyers worked on the company’s 2017 acquisition of Brilliant Basics, a London-based product design and customer experience innovator to further expand its worldwide connected network of digital studios that are focused on fulfilling the needs of its global clients.
