What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past 12 months?

In the past year, I have been closely involved in a number of high-profile and strategic projects. These include leading the legal work for two acquisitions of technology companies, from due diligence through to completion, navigating complex corporate, contractual and IP-related issues, as well as ensuring integration and alignment with business objectives.

I also managed the legal execution of three mergers between group companies, streamlining and simplifying the group structure to enhance operational efficiency and support long-term strategic alignment across the business. Additionally, I reviewed and harmonised the terms and conditions of a global loyalty programme, safeguarding compliance with consumer protection and data privacy requirements across a wide range of international markets.

How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In times of instability or crisis, I focus on rapid risk assessment, decisive action, and alignment with business priorities. In the technology sector, this means safeguarding data, IP, and operations while ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

By embedding legal input into strategic decision-making and maintaining clear, timely communication, I help the business adapt quickly, protect value, and seize opportunities—turning Legal from a reactive shield into a proactive driver of resilience.

What do you think are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In today’s fast-evolving business environment, particularly in the technology sector, a modern in-house counsel must combine deep legal expertise with a commercial mindset and technological fluency. Strategic thinking and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, business-oriented solutions are essential.

Strong compliance awareness, especially in areas such as data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory change, is critical to safeguarding the organisation while enabling innovation. Equally important are excellent communication and management skills, as in-house counsel must influence decision-making at all levels. Finally, a proactive, solution-driven approach is what enables legal teams to become true strategic partners and contributors to the company’s growth.

How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?

General Counsel can play a pivotal role in embedding ESG and compliance into the organisation’s DNA by aligning them with business objectives and day-to-day decision-making. In a technology environment, this means setting clear policies and measurable targets around data privacy, ethical AI use, sustainability in supply chains, and diversity in the workplace.

Leading by example is key—demonstrating integrity and accountability at the top encourages adoption at every level. Providing regular, engaging training and embedding ESG considerations into product development, procurement, and investment decisions helps employees see ESG not as an obligation, but as a driver of innovation and long-term value.

By making ESG and compliance part of the company’s story and success metrics, GCs can transform them from check-the-box exercises into shared strategic priorities.
