Christian Andrés Villagómez Aguinaga
Legal manager | QSI Ecuador
Team size: Two
How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crisis to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
To achieve this, it is important to adopt a strategic approach through analysis and regulatory compliance, legal risk management, contingency planning, and specialised advice; this will allow us not only to meet our legal obligations but also to strengthen our ability to adapt.
Based on your experiences in the past year, are there any trends in the legal or business world that you are keeping an eye on that you think other in-house lawyers should be mindful of?
Locally, I believe there are three key trends that all in‑house lawyers in Ecuador should be paying close attention to: the growing impact of ESG regulation (Environmental, Social and Governance), the increasing importance of regulatory compliance and corporate ethics, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence and Legal Tech.
How can general counsel foster a corporate culture that supports ESG principles and compliance across all levels of the organisation?
This can be achieved by integrating ESG principles into the corporate strategy, strengthening compliance policies, developing ongoing training programs for staff, establishing effective monitoring and oversight mechanisms, fostering transparency and accountability and promoting a culture grounded in ethics and sustainability.
